A polarisation spectrometer locked diode laser for trapping cold atoms
We have modelled and used polarisation spectroscopy to lock a very compact, high-performance extended cavity diode 85 Ž X . laser system to the Rb Fs3 to F s4 transition. The laser has a linewidth of 135 kHz. Using this system we have trapped and cooled 1.5=10 Rb atoms in a magneto-optical trap. Atoms remained continuously trapped in the MOT for several minutes. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All...
متن کاملA compact extended-cavity diode laser with a Littman configuration
We have constructed a compact extended-cavity diode laser (ECDL) that is based on a Littman configuration with a grating and a reflector. The whole structure is installed in a 2-inch kinematic mount. ECDLs operating at 852 nm (Cs 2 line), 894 nm (Cs 1 line), 780 nm (Rb 2 line), and 794 nm (Rb 1 line) were fabricated and tested. As a result of the performance test, up to 9 GHz continuous tuning ...
متن کاملUse of tapered amplifier diode laser for biological-friendly high-resolution optical trapping.
A 1064 nm laser is commonly used for biological optical trapping. However, it has the problem of generating reactive oxygen species in the presence of a sensitizer, which leads to photo damage in biological samples. Here we constructed optical tweezers using a tapered amplifier diode laser that operates at 830 nm. Compared to a 1064 nm laser, this laser is friendly to live cells, eliminates pho...
متن کاملMicrofluidic sorting system based on optical waveguide integration and diode laser bar trapping.
Effective methods for manipulating, isolating and sorting cells and particles are essential for the development of microfluidic-based life science research and diagnostic platforms. We demonstrate an integrated optical platform for cell and particle sorting in microfluidic structures. Fluorescent-dyed particles are excited using an integrated optical waveguide network within micro-channels. A d...
متن کاملA new compact high brilliance diode laser type
Our work deals with a new approach to improve the beam quality of diode lasers, which is still insufficient for many applications. We propose time-multiplexing, where several pulsed laser diode beams are guided onto a common optical path. This allows to superpose the power of the diodes while maintaining the beam parameter product of a single laser diode. Pulsed operation of continuous wave las...
